I feel that I have been fairly healthy my entire life, but decided to become a patient of Dr. Leo after he was able to help my wife with several problems that she has had for a few years. Also, I felt that the concept of better health (or continued good health) through the maintenance of the spine makes good sense. I have had occasional back pain and other minor aches and pains. Dr. Leo has addressed all of my complaints, no matter how minor. Better yet, he is teaching me how to evaluate myself and to help myself through stretching and breathing exercises. The entire staff at McCormick Chiropractic has been very friendly and helpful which has made my chiropractic experience a most positive one.

I started chiropractic care 1 year ago. My chief complaint was neck pain with limited neck mobility and headaches. I also had some lower back problems stemming from my pregnancies. I was miserable and only 37 years old! After heavy anti-inflammatory use without benefit I had to seek alternative holistic treatment. Since starting treatment, I have enjoyed good back/spine health. My neck pain and headaches are gone and my lower back has given me no problems. Thank you Dr. Leo and staff.

After an early lifetime of sports, motorcycle and bike falls, as well as a few summers of construction work, a co-worker turned me on to chiropractic care. There were times where my lower back was in such discomfort that I would have trouble sleeping. My idea of relief was to pop a few Advils and lie flat on a carpeted floor. I’m now on a maintenance plan and feel a whole lot better. I am also now aware of what stretching can do to help. Chiropractic care has really helped me feel good and has made me more aware of the things I need to do in order to maintain stability in my lower back.

My chiropractic success story tells not only how chiropractic helped me, but also what made me become a chiropractor. This story is personal and therefore will also help you get to know me better. It was the summer between my second and third year at the University. At that time I was planning on a career in genetics, and I was taking the appropriate courses. Two of my cousins were MDs and they were pushing me to join the medical profession. I knew that drugs and surgery were not the answer to optimal health; otherwise the healthiest people on the planet would be the ones with the most drugs and surgery. Since I didn’t believe in drugs and surgery, I knew I would be miserable as a MD. Then, it happened…
I started to have horrendous stomach pains. The pains were so bad that I often wouldn’t be able to eat for three days straight. I would then be fine for about five days and then I would have stomach pains again for another three days. It was much worse with eating (unlike an ulcer) and I wasn’t under much stress at the time – being it was summer. I also lost 10 pounds in less than a month! The university I went to had a medical college and a student clinic, so I went there to be examined. The doctor sent me for a barium swallow at the local hospital and the results did not indicate any ulcers, etc. The doctor proceeded to tell me it was “all in my head” and to not return unless I had a legitimate health complaint. (Translation: He had no idea what the problem was.) His advice was to take Tums when my stomach bothered me.
I was frustrated with my experience and I was walking home when I meet my former organic chemistry lab partner, B.J. I told B.J. what happened and he asked me if I had ever seen a chiropractor. I replied that I hadn’t since my stomach was bothering me and not my back. He told me that chiropractors are not just “back pain doctors”, but they work with the nervous system and that the nervous system controls every organ, tissue and cell of the body. B.J. recommended a nearby chiropractor. I decided to make an appointment since the medical community certainly wasn’t going to help me. So off to the chiropractor I went…
The chiropractor sarcastically asked me if my stomach hurt because I had a Tums deficiency. Of course I knew that a lack of a drug was not the root of my problem. She explained that subluxations obstruct the communication between the brain and the body and that it is these subluxations that result in a lowered state of health. She also told me that chiropractors do not treat symptoms, but remove nerve interference by correcting subluxations in the spine, and thus allowing the body to heal itself. At this point I was skeptical that chiropractic could be this good since I was coming from a very medically oriented background, but I was eagerly awaiting my first adjustment.
The chiropractor found a markedly subluxated T6 vertebra (the level where the spinal nerves provided information to the stomach area). She adjusted my spine and within minutes, my stomach pain subsided. Even more importantly, I was able to have a large lunch (and keep it down). Without chiropractic I can only guess as to what my future would have been. I probably would have to endure regular battles to keep my meals down and ensure I had enough nutrients to make it through the day. If I ever lost this struggle, I would collapse from a malnourished exhaustion and be in and out of the hospital for IVs to supply the nutrients I needed. The MDs would then probably remove my gallbladder or perform some unnecessary surgery on one or more of my digestive organs.
The incredible thing - all of this was the result of nerve interference. The effect of this nerve interference was the lowered state of health I experienced.
What has chiropractic done for me? It did remove my stomach pains and saved me from a life of drugs and surgery. More importantly, chiropractic taught me how to ward off disease, rather than focusing on health only during illness. The result – a dramatically reduced risk of illness – and greatly increased productivity! I have not taken an over the counter or prescription drug in over six years (not even a Tylenol or Aspirin)! Doctors of chiropractic do amazing things by educating the community about the power of prevention, often sparking paradigm shifts in the way people view wellness.
